New UN Resident Coordinator Arrives in Zimbabwe

16 September 2014, Harare – Mr. Bishow Parajuli, a national of Nepal, takes office as UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative for Zimbabwe today. 

Upon arrival at Harare International Airport yesterday evening, Mr. Parajuli was welcomed by officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Acting UN Resident Coordinator, Mr. Reza Hossaini; and UNDP Country Director, Ms. Verity Nyagah.

Mr. Parajuli takes office as UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative at a critical juncture, when the UN in Zimbabwe and the Government, together with development partners, are working towards the development of a five-year Zimbabwe United Nations Development Assistance Framework (ZUNDAF) for 2016-2020. The next ZUNDAF will support the achievement of national development priorities articulated under the Zim Asset in line with international development goals, norms and standards. 

Prior to this appointment (2013-2014), Mr. Parajuli was the WFP Representative and Country Director in Yemen.  He was Director of the Government Donor Relation Division at WFP Headquarter, Rome (2012-2013) and Chief of Staff and Director, Office of the Executive Director, Rome (2011 to 2012).  Mr. Parajuli’s first assignment as UN Resident Coordinator was in Myanmar from 2008-2011.
