UN Staff Clean Up Children’s Home on Nelson Mandela Day

Click to view photos from the event.In commemoration of Nelson Mandela Day 2012, staff from United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) and United Nations Volunteers (UNVs) cleaned Harare Children’s Home on 20 July 2012. Over 40 members of the United Nations in Zimbabwe cleaned up dining room, kitchen and the gardens of the Children’s Home.

Speaking at the conclusion of the cleanup, UNIC Harare Officer in Charge Tafadzwa Mwale thanked the volunteers for responding to the United Nation’s call to spend 67 minutes performing community service in honour of Nelson Mandela.

Situated in Eastlea, Harare Children’s Home takes care of abandoned and orphaned children brought to them through the Department of Social welfare. Currently there are 93 children in the home with the youngest being 6 months old and the oldest over 20 years.
